Well, I guess Ninang Cita kind of gave it away, but I got cast in the role of Tuptim in the Music Theater of Idaho's production of The King and I. It was funny because my mom was so exhausted from the commutes that rehearsal and work call required that she was going to ask if we could drop The King and I. The thing is that if you drop out of a show, you have to drop out of the rest of the season, which would suck, so I was totally against it and on the verge of throwing a tantrum, even if I was just a wife. So my mom emailed Jean, MTI's director, with high hopes of her sympathy, asking to "speak with her briefly in private," and she replied with "Oh. I'm always a bit worried when people ask to speak with me in private." Now my mom didn't really want to disclose her reason for wanting to talk, so she just said that she just wanted to discuss the shows after Seussical. Jean responded saying that she also wanted to discuss the shows after Seussical; she said that the role for Tuptim had just opened and that she was planning to offer it to me. My mom, now a bit dazed by the irony, had no idea what to say, so she just didn't respond to her message. Things unfolded from there, and Jean confirmed that if I wanted the role, then it was mine (I was very flattered). Anyway, there were a lot of coincidences in this happening: the fact that I got a lead role in the show we were going to drop, the fact that the other girl who plays Tuptim also lives in Kuna, and the fact that Julia and I got lead roles in Annie and The King and I, the exact musicals depicted on the plates that are hanging in our kitchen. Weird.
whoa...the plate thing is really weird...who says that there aren't signs in our lives? but anyway:
