Some acappella news!

{doing my solo in the recording studio}

Hi everyone,

Its Cayenne here. So...as many of you may know, I sing in an acappella group called the SoCal VoCals. We won the International Championship of Collegiate Acappella last year, and were on the Today Show, and we also have CD's on iTunes! After being in the group many years, I finally earned myself an original solo - its a song called "Misery Busines" by Paramore. Yes, its punk rock. lol. And at our Halloween concert last year when we dressed as scary clowns, I sang it while wearing a pink tutu. You can see last year's live performance of this song here, though there's an intro first:)

The really exciting thing is that we are including this song on our new album that is going to be released this coming March! I went into the professional recording studio today to sing it, and though I was really scared of being in such a claustrophobic setting for singing (I am the type of performer who is inspired by large audiences and a big stage, not a 5'x5' recording room) I actually had a LOT of fun and I think it went really well! It was my first time recording a solo professionally...this album will be released on iTunes, and we'll also have a nice full CD that we'll be selling (you all have to buy it! its going to be so good, it chronicles a lot of the amazing work that the SoCal VoCals have done, and includes our full set of songs that we used to win the top title in the world of acappella! plus of course it will have my solo :)

As you can see, I was being silly in the studio and took some pictures. Recording this song was also fun because I had to record my own backup harmony vocals, as well as record some "teen angst" doubling (I had to punk-yell some of the lyrics, that they will play underneath some of my sung lyrics).

And more good acappella news! I just got hired to be in a professional acappella group - I'll be singing mezzo in a 6-person group, and they have 2 alternates per vocal part because the goal is to have a lot of performance gigs for business functions and the like. So me and this other girl (Marisa, the top soloist from our rival USC group called Reverse Osmosis) are alternating on singing the Mezzo part. Our big long term goal is that we are in the works of recording a demo because we are in talks with Disneyland & Universal Studios of hopefully being performers there or even having our own show there! So lets hope that this project turns out well, because I just got in last week and we have already had to learn at least 12 different songs, and it would be nice if we had a lot of performing opportunities as a payoff. And I would be PAID $$$ to sing!! yes, feels so good!!

OK, thats all the news for now. Sorry i haven't posted in a while, as there haven't been many good exciting things happening this semester to update on...but these 2 things were definitely exciting and I wanted to share the news with you all! Miss ya :)

Love,
Cayenne

  2. Wow Ate Cayeene, that is freakin' cool! That's all I have to say since..well..that's AWESOME.

    I've always wanted to go to a recording studio..there's something about being in a soundproof box that seems quite appealing to me...
